In the African Cultural Studies course, I created a unique and informative children's book that compared and contrasted two different African cultures. The first culture was centered around the Nana Benz women, who controlled and marketed the textile trade in parts of Africa. The second culture was centered around the Sande Society, which uses regalia to perform crucial cultural knowledge in masquerades in southwest Africa. I could showcase my understanding of both art forms and explain them to a younger audience through detailed illustrations and easy-to-understand language. The book was created on Adobe Illustrator and included engaging visuals to help children learn about these essential African cultures.
